Why do I need blocks

Why do I need to make blocks. I am supposed to work on furniture plan, and I have been advised to make blocks, but don't know why.

Blocks allow you to make global changes to the symbol later on. For example, if you wanted to replace all the chairs in the plan with a different symbol, you can redefine the block of the chair, and all the chairs in the dwg will be updated. As a standard practice, most companies follow strict guidelines to keep the block intact.
